Capture The Moment

An Animation Celebrating the Beauty of Timing in Photography

The inspiration for this project is the beauty of "timing" when taking photographs. Kohki Kobori, a renowned designer and photographer, created this animation to showcase the significance of capturing the perfect moment.

"A second would make a big difference!" says Kobori, reflecting on his past experience as a photographer. He would often wait for hours to achieve the ideal natural lighting for his shots. He firmly believes that a perfect picture wouldn't exist without the perfect moment.

Capture The Moment is a truly exceptional project that took Kobori four months to create. The attention to detail is remarkable, with each frame per second featuring different shapes and elements that slowly morph into various objects. The entire video is a cell animation meticulously crafted in Adobe Photoshop.

What sets this project apart is that it was purely based on Kobori's personal experience as a photographer, without any external references or inspiration. This unique approach adds an authentic touch to the animation, making it a genuine reflection of his artistic vision.

The realization of this design involved a multi-step process. Kobori started by designing style frames using Adobe Illustrator. He then painstakingly animated each frame using the timeline feature in Adobe Photoshop. Finally, he compiled, adjusted, and finalized the design in Adobe After Effects.

The technical specifications of Capture The Moment are 1920 x 1080 pixels in .mp4 format, ensuring a high-quality viewing experience.

This project was a solo endeavor by Kohki Kobori, showcasing his exceptional talent and creativity.

Capture The Moment is a short movie that requires no user interaction. Viewers can simply sit back and enjoy the mesmerizing animation.

The project was initiated in September 2017 in New York and concluded in February 2018, also in New York. It was exhibited in a screening at SVA Theatre, located at 333 W 23rd St, New York, NY 10011.

The challenges faced during the creation of this project were primarily in achieving the desired aesthetics. Kobori aimed to create a natural, organic fluid movement, which led him to choose cell animation despite its time-consuming nature. Another obstacle was ensuring uniformity and coherence among all the small elements within each frame.

"Capture The Moment" is a captivating story that emphasizes the importance of timing and moments in photography. It beautifully portrays individual shapes randomly moving, eventually converging to create one perfect moment. The elements were meticulously crafted in Adobe Illustrator, animated in Adobe Photoshop, and finally assembled in Adobe After Effects to bring this vision to life.

This exceptional design has been recognized with the Iron A' Design Award in the Movie, Video, and Animation Design category in 2021. The Iron A' Design Award is bestowed upon well-designed, practical, and innovative creations that meet professional and industrial requirements. It is respected for integrating industry best practices and competent technical characteristics, providing fulfillment and positive feelings while contributing to a better world.
